Fiber to the premises (also called FTTP, or sometimes FTTH, fiber to the home) is the type of communication delivery infrastructure that comprises the FiOS network.

FTTP uses optical fiber as the delivery medium all the way to a subscriber's premises, as opposed to systems like FTTN (fiber to the node) or HFC (hybrid fiber-coaxial), which use older electrical technology, such as copper wire or coaxial cable, to deliver service over the "last mile."

FTTP is widely regarded as the best solution for providing reliable, high bandwidth connections to customers' homes, but building the necessary network infrastructure is costly and time-consuming.

Currently, Verizon has by far the largest number of FTTP customers with FiOS. However, many other companies are working on expanding their FTTP services as well.
