Fiber to the node network

Fiber to the node is a type of communication delivery infrastructure that uses optical fiber for the network backbone, but copper telephone wire or coaxial cable to bring service over the "last mile" to customers' homes. The optical fiber ends at a node, or terminal, after which the optical signal converted to an electrical one, and shared among hundreds of households.

By contrast, FTTP runs an individual optical fiber from the node all the way to each customer's home, greatly increasing bandwidth capabilities.
