Broadband
From FiOSWiki
Broadband, as the term is typically used, is synonymous with "high-speed Internet access." While several Internet access systems, with varying bandwidth capabilities, fall into the category of broadband -- from DSL to cable to FTTH -- the "high-speed" description usually is seen as a comparison to dial-up Internet access, which is capable of a 56 Kbps transfer rate.
The FCC defines broadband service as having a speed of 200 Kbps or more in at least one direction (download or upload.) By comparison, Verizon High Speed Internet service is capable of download speeds up to 3 Mbps (i.e., 3000 Kbps) and up to 7.1 Mbps in some areas; Verizon FiOS offers download speeds of up to 30 Mbps and up to 50 Mbps in some areas, while the FTTH technology FiOS uses has enormous bandwidth capabilities.
